In her immediate and merciless work _Surrounded by No One_ Margaret de Lange (*1963, Norway) investigates the odds of being together and of being alone; she is showing injury, anguish and emptiness. The photographer is searching for a feeling, an existential truth which she translates into gloomy, high-contrast black and white images. For years, she has photographed friends, family and acquaintances - always also searching for her own self.
'It is when I see myself that I take my photographs. These people become my mirrors; my way of showing those parts of me I'm trying to keep hidden. My insecurities, dreams and longings. My happiness and sorrows, victories and downfalls. My loneliness.' (Margaret M. de Lange)
