I Just Want to Dunk
With his work I Just Want to Dunk Jan Grarup (*1968, Denmark) portrays the women basketball national team in Mogadishu. In Somalia, ridden since decades by bloody civil war, sports are prohibited for women by Sharia law. As punishment the chopping off of hands and feet is threatened. But despite risks, death threats and repression, the women continue to play. For his reportage Jan Grarup won the first prize of the World Press Photo Awards in the 'Sports Features' category in 2013.
